Our History

whoMore than forty years ago, Rafael Arosemena together with small group of enthusiast engineers and technicians started the ship repair company in Cristobal on the Atlantic side of Panama Canal, he could hardly imagine company´s today achievements and worldwide reputation.

Today, with its fully skilled and internationally trained workforce ranging from 150 to 300, and fully equipped workshops and workboats, it has become one-stop-shop for all type afloat and underwater inspections and repairs, on both sides of the Panama Canal, attending an average of 800 to 1000 ships annually on 24/7 basis.

The company is ISO 9001:2000 certified, exclusive service station and distributor for Central and South America for TurboNed (turbochargers) and Westfalia separators.

For underwater inspections, cleaning and repairs, the company is member of American Divers Contractors and certified by LRS, ABS, NK, RiNA, BV and GL.

Full coverage of all type of electrical and electronic repairs has led the company to become member of International Ship Electrical and Engineering Service Association (ISES) in UK, as well as Electrical Apparatus Service Association in the USA.
Rental of marine type generator sets, ranging from 350 to 1,500 kW is another service that was introduced with full success ( being first and only one in region), and in accordance with constantly growing demand.

Further range of services also includes steel, and mechanical repairs to the highest standards, matching all customers and Classification societies requirements.

Lifeboats and davits inspections are carried out under certifications obtained from Hyundai, Nishi, Shigi, Norsafe and Watercraft Hellenic.

The company continues its constant personnel upgrading and training program, producing excellent results in return, guaranteeing customers´ full satisfaction.

Widening the range of services and its positive outcome resulted with widening of company´s services across the countries in the region, attending the vessels at 24 hour notice, throughout Central America, Caribbean and Latin America.
In year 2005 this dedication resulted with a underwater steel repairs on the grounded vessel at Callao, Peru, where 80 tons of steel were prefabricated and installed on the flat bottom of the vessel with 22 meters draft. A detail for Guinness book.

This year  was again extremely busy and successful for the Talleres, due to reputation gained with great number of repeat customers and new ones that have also discovered the advantages, and amenities that Panama as a country, offers to the ship Owners ( repair services, handling of spares, bond storage etc. ), as well being the biggest transshipment hub in Central and South America.

Constant pursuit of excellent service in shortest possible time, anywhere in the region, remains being Talleres’ main guidance, and assurance for the future
